Rio Usumacinta and the excavation of Piedras Negras - 9 or more Days
Easy (class II)
Minimum age: 12
Season: November - June
In the spring of 2002 we are fortunate to be working with an international team of archaeologists headed by Dr. Stephen Houston of Brigham Young University in the excavation of the important Mayan site of Piedras Negras. In conjunction with Maya Expeditions we will be providing the logistical support for the team as well as bringing clients to this remote site in the northwest corner of the country. Located on the Usumacinta River and accessible only by river raft, Piedras Negras has remained virtually untouched since it was first excavated in 1939. This will prove to be truly a unique exploration.
